MUSLIM AMERICAN PUBLIC AFFAIRS COUNCIL

Will You Help Re-Elect 2 Muslim State Legislators?

Two Muslims from the western part of the State who were elected to the Legislature in 2018 have asked MAPAC to let the Islamic Community know their re-election campaigns could use some financial help.  State Senator Mujtaba A. Mohammed for Senate District 38 and State Representative Nasif Majeed for House District 99 have asked MAPAC for fund raising assistance. Both of these districts are in the Charlotte area, The State Legislature that will be elected in 2020 will redraw both the State and Federal Congressional Districts in North Carolina after the 2020 census is completed, and these Districts will stand for the next 10 years. When the Districts were established by the State Legislature after the 2000 census District Boundaries were drawn in such a way as to effectively negate many North Carolinians votes for US Congressional and for State Legislature seats. These 2 Muslims, first elected to the State Legislature in 2018, are both committed to preventing this type of indirect disenfranchisement from happening again.
